NRC: National Register of Citizens
NRC Full Form
NRC Full Form is National Register of Citizens. It was prepared for the first time in 1951 after the Census of 1951. The aim is to record all legal citizens of India so that illegal immigrants can be identified and deported.
Assam is a border country with a unique problem of illegal immigration. It registered in 1951 on the basis of census data. However, it did not last long.
According to the 2003 Citizenship Rules, the central government may issue orders to create a national population register and create a national register-based on the data collected. The 2003 amendment added that local authorities would determine whether a person’s name was included in the NRC, and thus determine his or her citizenship. No new rules or regulations are required for this exercise across India.
