NIA full form stands for National Investigation Agency. NIA is India’s task force which counter-terrorism. The agency has been given the power to deal with terrorism-related crimes without special permission from the states.

Brief History

The agency came into existence on 31 December 2008 with the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Act 2008 by the Parliament of India, which was passed after the 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.

He was replaced by Sharad Chandra Sinha as of March 2013. In July 2013, Sharad Kumar was appointed as the head of the National Investigation Agency. In 2017, YC Modi was appointed as the NIA chief in September.
