NABH full form stands for National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers. The NABH is a constituency board of the Quality Council of India, set up to design and conduct accreditation programs for health organizations. Formed in 2005, it is of paramount importance to hospitals in India.

Brief History

The NABH approval system was established in 2006 as part of the Quality Council of India (QCI). The first version of the Standards was released in 2006 and the Standards are reviewed every 3 years thereafter. Currently, the fourth edition of NAB Standards has been released in December 2015.

Among government hospitals, Gandhinagar General Hospital was the first to receive NABH approval in 2009.

The Quality Council of India (QCI) and its National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers have developed a hygienic healthcare standard for hospitals and healthcare providers.

This standard includes more than 600 objective elements for a hospital to be approved by the NABH. These standards are divided between patient-centered standards and organizational-focused standards.
