History

The operation set up in the 1920s as the International Association for Standardization (ISA). It was draped during World War II in 1942, but after the war stopped, the recently set up United Nations Standards Coordination Committee (UNSCC) proposed to ISA to form a new global standards body.

In October 1946, representatives of the ISA and UNSCC from 25 countries/regions met in London and agreed to join efforts to create a new international organization for standardization. The new organization properly started operations in February 1947.
