ICAR Full Form
ICAR full form stands for Indian Council of Agricultural Research. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is an independent body responsible for coordinating agricultural education and research in India. The Department of Agricultural Research and Education reports to the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Union Minister of Agriculture is serving as its Chairman. It is the largest network of agricultural research and educational institutions in the world.
To consult on the renewal and renewal of higher education, the Yashpal Committee (2009) has recommended the establishment of a constitutional body, the National Commission for Higher Education and Research, to regularize all branches of higher education.
Currently, agricultural education regulations are mandated by ICAR, the Indian Veterinary Council, and the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education. The UPA government has included the recommendations of the Yashpal Committee in its 100-day agenda.
- 2006: ICAR develops bird flu vaccine. The vaccine was developed at the High-Security Veterinary Laboratory, Bhopal, the only facility in the country to test for H5N1 type bird flu.
- 2009: In December 2009, it announced that it was considering a policy to provide open access to its research.
- 2011: ICAR scientists were the first in the world to compile the pigeon genome. It was an indigenous effort of 31 scientists led by Narinder Kumar Singh of the NRCPB.
- 2013: On September 13, 2013, it announced the Open Access Policy and is committed to making the research output of publicly funded scholars publicly available through the Open Access Repository.
