UNICEF Full Form
UNICEF Full Form Stands for United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund. This is a special plan of the United Nations to promote the overall well-being of children and mothers in need around the world.
UNICEF is the successor to the International Children’s Emergency Fund (ICEF) established by the United Nations Ministry of Children’s Rehabilitation and Relief in 1946 to provide emergency relief to children and mothers affected by the Second World War.
The UNICEF programme emphasizes the development of services at the community level to promote the health and well-being of children. Most of its work is carried out on the ground, with a network of 150 country offices, headquarters and other facilities, and 34 “national committees” that carry out its tasks through plans established with the host government.
Seven regional offices provide technical assistance to country offices as needed, while the materials departments in Copenhagen and New York have helped provide more than $3 billion in assistance and critical services.
In 2018, UNICEF assisted the delivery of 27 million children, provided an estimated 65.5 million children with pentavalent vaccines, provided education for 12 million children, provided treatment for 4 million children with serious acute famine, and countered to 285 generous emergencies in 90 countries.
UNICEF’s work has been appreciated, the Indira Gandhi Prize in 1989, and the Princess of Asturias Prize in 2006. During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, UNICEF and the World Health Organization have issued guidelines on health education.
