NSG Full Form
NSG full form stands for National Security Guard. This is an elite counter-terrorism unit under the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Its role has been extended over the years to provide personal protection to influential politicians, regardless of the actual threat.
It was established Under the National Security Guard Act, 1986, following Operation Blue Star, the Golden Temple Attack, and the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on September 22, 1986.
The NSG was formed as a result of Operation Blue Star, and the Golden Temple, and more civilian and military casualties. Since its inception, NSG has been used in Punjab and Jammu, and Kashmir in 1986.
The NSG is a ‘federal emergency deployment force’ to deal with all aspects of terrorism in the country. As a special counter-terrorism force, it is used “only in exceptional circumstances” and is not intended to handle “actions of the state police force or other paramilitary forces.”
The NSG has been trained to conduct counter-terrorism operations, including combating land, sea, and air abduction. Bomb Disposal (IEDs Search, Detection and Deactivation) PBI (Post Blast Investigation) and Hostage Rescue Mission.
