NIA Full Form
NIA full form stands for National Investigation Agency. NIA is India’s task force which counter-terrorism. The agency has been given the power to deal with terrorism-related crimes without special permission from the states.
The agency came into existence on 31 December 2008 with the enactment of the National Investigation Agency Act 2008 by the Parliament of India, which was passed after the 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
Such an attack clearly highlighted the failure of intelligence and the ability to exist agencies in India to track such activities, so the Indian government set up a special body to deal with terrorist activities, Realizes the need for how the NIA came into existence.
NIA is headquartered in New Delhi and has branches in Hyderabad, Guwahati, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Kolkata, Raipur, and Jammu. It retains the most wanted list of the NIA. The founding director-general of NIA was Radha Vinod Raju and served until 31 January 2010.
He was replaced by Sharad Chandra Sinha as of March 2013. In July 2013, Sharad Kumar was appointed as the head of the National Investigation Agency. In 2017, YC Modi was appointed as the NIA chief in September.
