IST Full Form
IST full form stands for Indian Standard Time. Indian Standard Time (IST) is a time zone that is observed all the time with a time of UTC + 05: 30. India does not observe daytime savings or other seasonal adjustments.
IST has been designated E * (“Echo Star”) in military and aviation times. This is indicated in the IANA time zone database as Asia / Kolkata.
- After independence in 1947, the central government established IST as the official time for the whole country, although Kolkata and Mumbai had their local time until 1948 and 1955.
- The Central Observatory was shifted from Chennai to a location at Shankargarh Fort in Priyagraj District so that it could be close to UTC + 05:30.
- Daylight Saving Time (DST) was briefly used during the Sino-Indian War of 1962 and the Indo-Pak War of 1965 and 1971.
